How does a vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) chassis truck work?

The chassis of the vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) (also called a trolley or cradle mechanism) is a movable mounting structure used to support the VCB's movement into (connection) and out (disconnection) in the switch cabinet while ensuring the reliability of the electrical connection and mechanical stability. Its core working principle is as follows:

1. Mechanical movement mechanism

 

The chassis realizes the movement of VCB through the guide rail + roller/slide mechanism, which is mainly divided into two operation modes:

Manual operation: manually push in/pull out through the crank handle or push-pull rod.

Electric operation (optional): driven by a motor to achieve remote or automatic control.

 

Working position:

Working position (Connected): The VCB main contact is in full contact with the switchgear busbar, and the circuit breaker can be opened and closed normally.

Test/Disconnected position (Test/Disconnected): The VCB is disconnected from the main circuit, but the control circuit is still energized, which is convenient for testing or maintenance.

Withdrawn position (Withdrawn): The VCB is completely separated from the switchgear and can be repaired or replaced.

 

2.Electrical connection mechanism

 

During the movement of the VCB chassis, the main circuit and the secondary control circuit must be correctly connected:

(1) Main circuit connection
The moving contact (moving contact) on the chassis is aligned with the static contact (fixed contact) in the switch cabinet.

When the VCB is pushed into the working position, the moving and static contacts are in close contact, ensuring low contact resistance and high current carrying capacity.

Finger contacts or plug-in contacts are used to ensure good electrical contact.

 

(2) Secondary control circuit connection
The chassis is usually equipped with an automatic plug-in secondary plug, which automatically connects/disconnects the control signal (such as the opening and closing coil, auxiliary contacts, etc.) when moving in/out.

Prevent live operation and improve safety.

 

3.Safety interlock mechanism

 

To prevent misoperation, the chassis is equipped with multiple mechanical/electrical interlocks:
◆Movement is prohibited when the circuit breaker is closed: If the VCB is in the closed state, the interlocking mechanism will lock the chassis to prevent the load from being pulled.
◆Closing is prohibited when it is not fully in place: The VCB must be fully pushed into the working position to close the circuit breaker to avoid arcing caused by false connection.
◆Grounding switch interlocking: When the VCB is moved out, the grounding switch can be closed automatically or manually to ensure maintenance safety.
◆Position indication: The position of the VCB (working/testing/exit) is displayed through mechanical signs or sensors (such as limit switches).

 

4.Typical operation process (taking manual chassis vehicle as an example)

 

Unlock: Confirm that the circuit breaker has been opened and release the chassis mechanical lock.

Move: Shake the crank or push and pull the handle to slide the VCB in or out along the guide rail.

Positioning: When reaching the target position (working/testing), the interlocking mechanism automatically locks.

Electrical connection: The secondary plug is automatically connected and the main contacts are reliably in contact.

Operation permission: The interlock is released and the VCB is allowed to close (only in the working position).
