What is the difference between JN15-12 and JN17-12 high voltage grounding switches?

JN15-12 and JN17-12 are both 12kV high voltage grounding switches, mainly used for grounding protection of power systems, but they have certain differences in design, structure, application, etc. The following are the main differences between the two:

JN17-Grounding-Switch-5

Model naming and standards

JN15-12

"J" stands for earthing switch, "N" stands for indoor ("W" stands for outdoor), "15" is the design number, and "12" stands for the rated voltage of 12kV.

Complies with Chinese power industry standards (such as DL/T 403, GB 1985).

JN17-12

"17" is a newer design number, which may be an improved model of JN15, and some manufacturers use it to replace the old model.

Also complies with national standards, but may be optimized in mechanical structure or materials.

Structure and mechanical properties

Comparison Items JN15-12 JN17-12
Operation mode Manual operation (mechanical interlock) Manual or optional electric operation (some manufacturers)
Contact design Traditional copper silver-plated contacts Possibly use alloy contacts with stronger oxidation resistance
Mechanical life Approximately 2000 operations Possibly increase to 3000~5000 times (depending on the manufacturer)
Interlocking method Mechanical interlock (mandatory error prevention) Possibly add electrical interlock (coordinated with comprehensive protection system)

Electrical parameters

Both are applicable to 12kV systems, but some details may differ:

Parameters JN15-12 JN17-12
Rated current Conventional specifications such as 630A, 1250A Possibly expandable to 1600A (some models)
Short-time withstand current Usually 20kA/4s Possibly increaseable to 25kA/4s
Insulation level Power frequency 42kV, impulse 75kV Same, but partial discharge performance may be improved

Application scenarios

JN15-12

Traditional fixed switchgear (such as XGN2-12, GG1A), suitable for industrial and mining enterprises, substations, etc.

Economical solution, simple maintenance.

JN17-12

May be used for new switchgear (such as inflatable cabinet, ring network cabinet), with a more compact structure.

Suitable for occasions with higher requirements for mechanical life or intelligence (such as data centers, new energy power stations).

Other improvements

Possible optimizations of JN17-12:

Smaller operating torque (reduces the difficulty of manual operation).

Modular design for quick replacement.

Enhanced corrosion resistance (such as improved shell coating process).

Summary

Choose JN15-12: limited budget, traditional switch cabinet matching, conventional application scenarios.

Choose JN17-12: need higher mechanical life, intelligent expansion or new switch cabinet adaptation.
